"Whether you're seven or seventy, one day you'll find a place where you excel."
This quote is actually from Reach for the Moon (also known as What Once was White), which is the book Samantha Abeel, the author and main character of My Thirteenth Winter, wrote and published when she was just fifteen. I chose this as my life quote because to applies to Samantha and others with learning disabilities perfectly. Samantha has dyscalculia, a disability that prevents her from being able to do even simple math. This caused her to become anxious and depressed, but she soon discovered the incredible gift she has in writing. She soon published a book of her own, which inspired others with learning disabilities, and even teachers. Among her fan mail, one letter reads, “When I read your book I was so touched because I knew now that I am not the only one who felt that they are dumb and lazy. In my regular class I didn’t put my hand up very much. Here I put my hand up the whole time. I didn’t tell any of my friends about my LD because I thought they would laugh. I know you won’t laugh”. The readers of Reach for the Moon are able to relate and confide in Samantha. Similarly, a mother of a child with a disability writes, “At times she felt no one believed in her but me. Fortunately, she has a talent to help heal the wounds of what she can’t do”, that talent obviously being Samantha. She is a role model and a source of inspiration for kids without hope or support. Another fan’s letter says, “Your words and images made my feelings about the sacredness of life and the importance of honoring all children come alive again. I know we all carry beautiful gifts within us, and if we’re fortunate someone helps us discover them”. Not only does Samantha inspire children and teens, but teachers and parents as well. Because of her book, countless people have a purpose in life again.
The poem below also applies to the quote. It describes the feelings of someone who wants to succeed in life, but cannot find the chance to try.

Part of the Process
Morcheeba
Angry faces, cursing loud,
Changing places, falling proud
Behind the bomb, no one cares,
Time is money
We're taught to tear
It's all part of the process
We all love looking down
All we want is some success
But the chance is never around
It's all part of the process
We all love looking down
All we want is some success
But the chance is never around
How can we show, how to feel
Situation ain't so real
Chopping wood won't stop the rage
We need targets on war we wage
It's all part of the process
We all love looking down
All we want is some success
But the chance is never around
It's all part of the process
We all love looking down
All we want is some success
But the chance is never around
You smash they grab 'til it's gone
Attempt to grow and fix undone
And I am the way it's all to scale
We're all companions on which we sail
It's all part of the process
We all love looking down
All we want is some success
But the chance is never around
It's all part of the process
